The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is the nation’s heart charity.
The BHF raises funds for pioneering research that saves and improves the lives of vulnerable men, women and children whose hearts are in crisis. Research breakthroughs, like cholesterol lowering drugs called statins, new pace makers and replacement heart valves that keep hearts beating today.
Heart disease is complex. It is unpredictable. It could affect anyone of any age.
We need donations urgently – you are still more likely to die from heart and circulatory disease than any other serious illness. Did you know that every two minutes someone has a heart attack? – Only half survive.
That’s why we spend £95 every minute on research: to discover the mysteries of heart disease; to try to predict who is at risk; and to prevent the premature deaths of all those in danger.

The aim of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) is to play a leading role in the fight against disease of the heart and circulation so that it is no longer a major cause of disability and premature death. |

Research
We fund research into the causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. The BHF is committed to winning the war on heart disease by funding 30 professors and hundreds of scientists and doctors working in universities and hospitals across the UK.
Patient Care
Each year more people survive Coronary Heart Disease and the BHF helps them on the road to recovery. We provide specialist nursing care and support cardiac rehabilitation programmes and support groups nationwide.
Education
Heart disease is often preventable. The BHF promotes this encouraging message by raising awareness of the risk factors and giving practical information through posters, leaflets, videos and the media.
Emergency skills
More and more people now know how to save a life thanks to the BHF’s Heartstart UK schemes which teach emergency life support skills. .
Equipment
We provide vital life-saving equipment to hospitals, ambulance services, the police and fire services and the wider community. |
